READING

Students will receive different types of Reading instruction throughout the day in Learning Support.

They will be measured and monitored on their reading  as well to show student progress.

Please practice reading whenever you can with your child... library books, menus, magazines, or anything else that is of interest to your child!  Help us promote life-long learners!

Reading Rockets will be coming home this year as well to encourage your child to read.  They will go back and forth to school daily.  See upcoming information on this as it is a school- wide initiative.

MATH

We will still be using our new math program:  Envisions.  I will match students based on their math ability to a grade-curriculum which I will use to teach math.

There are a lot of online components.  There is more rigor in the program.  Participation and homework completion will help in the understanding of the concepts being taught.

4th grade students, whom I see for math will be taught at a slower pace with more manipulatives.  Expect homework to be sent home Monday-Thursday each week.

SPELLING

On 4-day and 5-day weeks, all students will receive a spelling list and assignments on Monday or the 1st day of the week.  Homework sheets are due 3 times a week:  Rainbow Spelling, Word Shapes, and some other spelling word practice activity.   Tests take place on Fridays.

WRITING

We are working to be better writers through the steps of the writing process:

Brainstorming
Pre-writing
Rough Draft
Revising
Final Draft
Rubric

Students will receive writing in their homerooms as well as some other writings in the Learning Support classroom.

We also work a lot on the conventions of writing:  using capital and periods, writing neatly:  spaghetti spaces between letters, and meatballs between words; and writing sentences that make sense!

Students are receiving varying levels of support based on their IEPs.  When students are in their Regular Education Classroom, they are expected to TRY and participate in the activities their class is doing.
